Alternators - Pancake
Pancake brushless alternators are very powerful for
their size and weight. They have either one or no bearings
and have relatively few parts, so they are efficient and reliable.
This is the most common alternator choice for most applications.
These units produce an AC voltage that varies in amplitude
and frequency with RPM. Within their operational range, the
faster they spin, the more power they can supply.
Characteristically, these alternators employ rare earth magnets,
high quality magnetic steel, 200C winding insulation and other
high end materials. Pancake alternators can be manufactured
efficiently in volume.
In addition to the standard sizes, these can be scaled larger
and smaller as needed. If a standard size will not fit, we
can design and manufacture custom sizes.
Usually, these alternators mount directly to an engine or
drive shaft. No transmission is needed. The alternator hub
is machined to accommodate the bolt pattern of the drive hub.
It is also possible to mount pancake alternators on a secondary
shaft and drive them with a belt or gears. While less efficient
than direct driving, this is an approach that is used when
space constraints prevent mounting directly to the drive hub.
Brushless Pancake alternators can be designed for a wide range
of output power levels.
In addition to the standard sizes we carry, we can build custom
sizes for special applications.
