Undermount
starters are mounted next to the engine. They have
a Bendix assembly that accesses a ring gear mounted
to a rear shaft on the engine or to a ring gear mounted
to the front output shaft. If the engine is fitted
with an alternator, the ring gear can be part of the
alternator assembly.
Like the rear mount starters, these starters are completely
disengaged once the engine is running. The modular
design makes installation and maintenance relatively
